Stand-up comedian Tim Hawkins is one of a rare breed of comics these days: his jokes are “clean.” The “Cletus Take the Reel” performer launches his new multi-city “Tim Hawkins Live in Concert” tour at Temple Church in New Burn, NC., Aug. 20.

Hawkins’ down-home antics, hilarious storytelling and high-energy musical parodies – based on his upbringing and married life in rural USA – are a big hit with clean-comedy fans.

“Music is more inspirational to me than comedy,” admitted Hawkins, who grew up in Missouri. “I’m a rock ‘n’ roll guy who loves Led Zeppelin.””I want my shows to have that feel, that energy, so I try to mix it up and give it a dynamic of highs and lows,” he says, citing Jerry Seinfeld, Brian Regan, George Carlin, Jerry Lewis, and Flip Wilson as big influences on his style.

About Tim Hawkins: Over three decades, Hawkins has developed a knack for poking fun at things in his world through side-splitting songs like “Cletus Take the Reel” – an ode to fishing loosely based on Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel” that has had more than 8.5 million views on YouTube.

It all started for Hawkins while serving customers pasta, bottomless salad and breadsticks at a local Olive Garden. His co-workers encouraged the “natural entertainer” to sign up for an open mic night at the Funny Bone comedy club in St. Charles, Mo. Once Hawkins set foot on stage, he knew he’d found his calling.

Hawkins has released eight full-length comedy DVDs and five albums. He’s recorded over 100 episodes of his popular “Poddy Break” podcast, and currently hosts “The Tim Hawkins” podcast, featuring his wife Heather, daughter Olivia and son-in-law Luke
